LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Within hours of the Lufkin Police Department asking the public for help finding a registered sex offender who failed to comply with his registration requirements, officers with the Diboll Police Department took the 38-year-old man into custody.
William Thomas Dykes, of Lufkin, has not been booked in to the Angelina County Jail yet. No further details on his arrest were available Monday afternoon.
Jessica Pebsworth, a spokeswoman for the Lufkin Police Department, said that Dykes told authorities he was living with a family member on Cain Street, but he had actually been living at Petty's Motel, which is located at 1112 North Timberland Drive.
"When an officer stopped by the Cain Street address to perform a sex offender check, the family member said they would not lie for Dykes and that he had not been living there," Pebsworth said. "After going to Petty's Motel, to make contact with Dykes, the officer learned that Dykes abruptly checked out on. Aug. 7. Petty's Motel is his last known address."
Dykes has previous convictions for failure to comply with sex offender registry requirements, Pebsworth said. She also said that Dykes' original charge stems from an Iowa conviction for attempt to commit assault with the intent to commit sexual assault involving a 22-year-old woman before July of 2000.
