LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Unlike their Thursday opponents, the Grosse Pointe Little League team has experience in the Little League World Series.
The team goes by the full name Grosse Pointe Woods-Shores. According to Wikipedia, Grosse Pointe is a coastal area adjacent to Detroit and consists of five cities.
The Little League team represented the Central Region in 1979 and the Great Lakes Region in 2013, according to The Detroit News.
Grosse Pointe did not take an easy road this year in the regional. They began with their backs against the wall by losing to Ohio, 10-2. They then beat Indiana, 4-3, Kentucky, 10-0, Ohio, 11-3, and Illinois in the final, 6-3.
The Lufkin All-Stars play Grosse Pointe in the opening round of the Little League World Series Thursday at 6 p.m.
