NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches County United Way kicked off its 2018 Live United Way fundraising campaign Tuesday.
A tested allocation formula will benefit programs managed by numerous non-profit agencies.
Nacogdoches County United Way lets potential donors know right away ...
"The money that's donated, 99 percent of it stays in Nacogdoches County," said Gary Ashcraft, the executive director of the Nacogdoches United Way.
Operational costs are covered by an underwriting program sponsored by corporate donors.
The bulk of the donations serves about 21 non-profit agencies, including the award-winning Nacogdoches Treatment Center for individuals with Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. Each program is allotted a percentage of every penny raised, rather than a pre-determined dollar amount.
"So if we do better, and we expect we certainly will in terms of people participating financially in this campaign, then the agency because of the percentage will do better," Ashcraft said. They'll receive more money."
United Way is building off a $200,000 base, considerably less than this year's $300,000 unmet goal.

"You can actually call me. My cell phone is on the website," Ashcraft said. "Go to our website."
Payroll deductions can be arranged. Individual donations are accepted, too.
At tonight's kickoff, a $10,000 check was presented through an estate plan.
