POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Investigators with the Polk County Sheriff's Office are looking into a possible murder that also involved a kidnapping that occurred on Aug. 18.
After PCSO deputies were dispatched out to Wiggins Subdivision No. 1 on a welfare check, they found the body of a 76-year-old man in a travel trailer, and
Chief Deputy Byron Lyons said that case is being investigated as a homicide.
According to a press release, the Polk County Sheriff's Office received a phone call from a sergeant with the Tomball Police Department requesting they send deputies out to 143 Lewis Village Road in Wiggins Subdivision No. 1 to do a welfare check. The sergeant said they were with a woman named Billie Sparks, who had told them that her husband had been murdered and she had been kidnapped by Edward Roane, her 71-year-old brother.
Lyons said Billie Sparks managed to escape from her brother at some point after he kidnapped her.
"Tomball Police Department advised they needed to confirm if a murder had taken place, because the actor was believed to be barricaded in a hotel there in Tomball," the press release stated. "Deputies with the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to the Lewis Village Rd. location and discovered the body of 76-year-old, Alton Sparks inside his travel trailer. "
According to the press release, the PCSO, the Polk County District Attorney's Office, and the Texas Rangers investigated the death of Alton Sparks.
Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Darrell Longino performed the inquest, and he ordered that Alton Spark's body be taken to the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy, the press release stated.
"The final disposition into the death of Mr. Alton Sparks is pending the preliminary autopsy report," the press release stated.
The press release stated that the Tomball Police Department told the Polk County Sheriff's Office that when a SWAT team made entry in to Roane's motel room, they found him dead.
