MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin DJ and another man are still missing after their boat capsized in Montgomery County while they were helping evacuate Hurricane Harvey victims early Wednesday man.
Another man was found and is recovering in a hospital, according to Mike Koenig with Smith-Koenig Radio.
"It is with heavy hearts that we make this post," a post on the Y-100 Your Country Choice Facebook page state. "Yesterday afternoon, Alonso 'DJ Ocho' Guillen, 31, of Lufkin, left the radio station early to head to the Spring area to help rescue stranded Harvey victims. Around midnight, the boat he was on capsized after entering water with heavy currents."
Koenig said he got the call about 3 or 4 a.m. Wednesday morning. He said, from what he has heard, the three men's boat hit a bridge and capsized. All three men were swept away by the fast-moving currents.
The one man who was found was located about a mile from where the boat capsized. An East Texas News viewer said he was able to hang on to a tree long enough to be rescued. Koenig said Guillen and Tomas Carreon, of Lufkin, are still missing.
Anyone with any information on their whereabouts is urged to call the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at (936) 760-5871.
Guillen works as a DJ on Y100.1's Lufkin sister station 101.9 during the afternoon "supermix" show, Koenig said.
