ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County churches, restaurants and businesses are providing free, delivered meals to hotel guests.
First Baptist Church in Lufkin and Clawson Assembly of God teamed up to arrange the meals. This afternoon, Tome' Catering delivered homemade soup and cornbread. The generosity is a way to stretch budgets for evacuees.
"I feel like part of my calling is to feed the multitudes, whether it's paid or not paid. It's part of my gifting, so I just want to bless people," said Britany Vinson, the owner of Tome' Catering.
"And we know the state has a plan," said the Rev. Walker McWilliams, the associate pastor of Mission First Baptist Church in Lufkin. "And we know Red Cross has a plan. And sometimes we don't always understand it, but we want to help. Just us giving them a chop beef sandwich and a gift card for $20 or $30 that could help them out right now."
Volunteers do not want to duplicate services.
Any organization or individual wanting to provide meals to evacuees is encouraged to contact either First Baptist Church of Lufkin or Clawson Assembly of God, so volunteer help can be organized.
