LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Family members of the missing Lufkin man - whose body was recovered two days ago are speaking on Sunday.
Tomas Carreon went missing last Wednesday when he was thrown from a boat in rushing waters. He was with Lufkin radio personality at the time.
"I wish it was a nightmare and wish that he will come home like he said he was," said Stefany Carreon, his wife.
Mourning the loss of a beloved husband and father, the Lufkin family is choosing to focus on the life the 25-year-old lived.
Stefany said one of the last actions he did was buy his three children a dog.
"He said that the dog was going to take care of my kids. That the dog was going to watch my kids grow," Stefany said.
His sister, Claudia Vasquez said they were hoping he would be alive.
"We're hoping he was still there holding onto a tree, we never lost hope," Vasquez said.
But the father who went to help others evacuate, ultimately needed his own rescue from the heavy waters that took him, while his family now remains positive.
"No matter what the situation was, he always had a smile on his face," Stefany said.
An ever smiling father, brother, and husband, the family holds hope of the most cherished memories.
"I'm really sad but I'm happy that they found his body because now my parents can be in peace," Vasquez said.
Stefany said their children will continue to remember their father who helped Hurricane Harvey victims.
"They're going to see him as a hero," Stefany said.
In the coming days, the family plans to hold a funeral for the father.
