ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Because of the effects Hurricane Harvey had on performers, static aircraft, and other essential personnel, the third annual Angelina County AirFest, which was scheduled for Oct. 7, has been canceled.
"The Angelina County AirFest scheduled for Oct. 7 is being canceled due to the effects from Hurricane Harvey on performers, static aircraft, and other essential personnel, plus the further delays in the ongoing airport improvements due to the weather," said Brian Crews with the Lufkin Detachment Marine Corps League.
Crews said that the areas that would have been used for onsite parking for the air show would not have been ready because the county precinct where the airport is located has inundated with repairs to roads damaged by the recent storms.
"The AirFest will be scheduled for Oct. 2018 upon approval by the county judge and the commissioners court," Crews said. "Anyone who has purchased tickets will be given a full refund by returning tickets to the place of purchase."
One of the first acts that was announced for the third annual AirFest was Kyle Franklin. He would have been performing in a specially built biplane called Dracula. He had also been set to perform a comedy act in his highly modified Super Cub airplane, according to the Marine Corps League's Facebook page. AirFest visitors would have been able to meet the pilots and tour historic warbirds.
The show would have been a benefit for the Marine Corps League's annual Toys for Tots drive, and all of the proceeds will stay local.
