LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested a man and a woman Sunday night after they allegedly stole a child's bicycle from the assistant chief's home and drove off in a pickup.
A search of their vehicle turned up 10.8 grams of marijuana, according to a Lufkin Police Department report.
Crystal Diane Havard, 33, and Andrew B. Massingill, 22, both of Lufkin, are still being held in the Angelina County Jail. They were both charged with Class B misdemeanor theft between $100 and $750 and Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana less than 2 ounces. Havard's theft charge was upgraded to a state-jail felony because she had two or more previous conviction.
Collectively, Havard's bail amount was set at $5,000, and Massingill's collective bail was set at $3,000.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the incident occurred in Normandy Estates at about 9:46 p.m. Sunday. Assistant Chief David Thomas was watching TV with his wife when their flood lights came on, and they witnessed running away from their porch with their son's Huffy bicycle over her head, the report stated.
Havard allegedly put the bike in the back of a nearby Toyota Tundra. Thomas followed behind them in his unmarked police vehicle.
"Thomas activated his lights and made a felony traffic stop on the vehicle," the report stated. "He held them until other officers arrived."
In addition to the marijuana Lufkin PD officers also found a Go Vault container, a crack pipe, a grinder, rolling paper, a push rod, and fingernail clippers in the Tundra.
