LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - As many roads open up for evacuees from the Houston area to return home, there are several from the Beaumont, Port Arthur, and Spurger area waiting to make their journey back on Thursday.
One Port Arthur family living at a Lufkin hotel said they were undergoing renovations when the hurricane destroyed all their investments.
"We'll wait to see to repair if it is going to be repaired, but even if that can happen, we know that that is definitely going to be a process, so we have to have some where to live in that time," said Alex Frazier, an evacuee from Port Arthur.
A Spurger area couple described the challenges they faced saying they did not have any bread, water, or even the ability to buy gasoline.
"We came back to Lufkin, and we have been here since Monday," said Tony and Angie Stanley, from Spurger.
Now, as the waters do recede they plan to reassess to see if they can return home to see the damages.
