JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office arrested a 28-year-old Buna man last week in connection to allegations that he beat up his girlfriend, choked her, and bit off the tip of her nose.
Joshua Barker is still being held in the Jasper County Jail on assault-family violence-impeding breath charge. He has also been charged with two unrelated aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges. Collectively, his bail amount has been set at $95,000.
Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said Monday that Barker is ex-military and possibly suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. Newman added that the victim in the assault-family violence case will probably need plastic surgery.
Before Barker was arrested for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, he was charged with the two aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges in connection to allegations he stabbed two people in the Buna area, Newman said. The sheriff said both victims in that case were taken to a Beaumont hospital for treatment of their injuries.
