CORRIGAN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Corrigan Police Department arrested a 47-year-old man Monday night in connection to a allegations that he went into a woman's apartment back in March of 2007 and sexually assaulted her while she was asleep.
Theortis Lionell Williams, of Corrigan, is still being held in the Polk County Jail on a felony sexual assault charge. No bail amount has been set at this time.
Lt. Bert Sims with the Corrigan Police Department said that he was looking into a more current, unrelated case when he came across the cold sexual assault case involving Williams. He said, for some reason, the case was never assigned to a Corrigan PD officer.
When Sims looked at the case, he found that it still fit the statute of limitations. He called the original complainant and asked her if she still wanted to prosecute, and she said yes.
Sims said they investigated and found enough probable cause for an arrest warrant for Williams.
Back in March of 2007, another man served as a lookout while Williams went into the then-47-year-old woman's apartment and sexually assaulted her while she was sleeping, Sims said. After the woman woke up, Williams allegedly fled the scene.
An arrest warrant for conspiracy to commit sexual assault has been issued for the second suspect in the case, who is not in custody at this time, Sims said.
