Despite being 0-2, Coach Bobby Reyes is confident in the direction his team is going.
The team lost games to Kilgore and Lufkin. Both were road games. The team opener does not get any easier. Tyler Lee, out of 6A will be paying the Dragons a visit on Friday night.
"Lee is coming in at 2-0," Reyes said. "They are riding a high right now. We just got to get better and play better offensively and defensively. We are still young. We make a lot of mistakes. Last week we played three really good quarters against Lufkin. We had a bad mistake that we made at the end of the third that cost us."
That is all you can expect to hear from coach on the loss. His focus is on Lee and then the next game. Taking each one game at a time. Just looking at the schedule it is easy to say it does not get easier. After Lee, the Dragons will take on Hallsville in what is usually a good matchup between the two teams. after that they will play #2 ranked Gilmer. Not until after that will their district schedule start.
"Some say, maybe they need to fire the guy that put the schedule together," Reyes said. "Well that would be me. I put the schedule together because we got to learn how to compete against good people. We know when we get into district and get into the playoffs we are going to play good people."
The team is also buying into the philosophy.
"We come out here everyday and try to win the next game and win district, cornerback Lovenski Simon said. "I think the coaches are doing everything they can to make us better on and off the field."
Some of the team even seems confident going into the game with Lee on Friday night .
"They are pretty good, but I'm sure we can beat them," running back Marcus Sweat said. "We got a great offensive line. We got a great receiver base. We got a great defense. I'm sure we can get them."
