CUSHING, TX (KTRE) - Another day brings another day of updates in the Cushing ISD and Hawkins ISD investigation by the University Interscholastic League.
CISD Superintendent Michael Davis confirmed on Wednesday morning that he will be going to Austin next Tuesday with his staff to meet with UIL officials and Hawkins ISD staff as well.
According to Davis the incident all started Friday night after Cushing beat the Hawks 22-20 on the last play of the game. Davis said while the team was celebrating and lining up for a hand shake, a Hawkins coach approached one of his coaches and started to yell at him.
"It should have been a very successful night for Cushing ISD and the football program then we get hit with an immediate curve ball," Coach James Davis said earlier in the week.. "Losing or winning is not going to cause us as a staff or a community to act unruly or have unsportsmanlike conduct. "
Davis said he will not be handing out any discipline measures to his staff or students. Davis did say that the UIL does have a right to do that if they choose to.
"We are just sitting here and talking to our staff and students about what is the appropriate thing to do if they find themselves in these situations again."
Earlier in the week Davis did say he hoped Hawkins also was not handed down any negative discipline.
The incident started to gain attention after Hawkins ISD released a statement on social media over the weekend.
The East Texas news reached out to Hawkins ISD Wednesday but Superintendent Lyon's was not available to comment.
