Lufkin PD investigating robbery of Walmart Money Center

From the Lufkin Police Department

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - The Lufkin Police Department is investigating the Sunday morning robbery of Walmart's Money Center.

The suspect walked into the store at 10:02 a.m., grabbed a Gatorade from a self-checkout area refrigerator and walked over to the Money Center. He "hung around" the Money Center for several minutes, allowing other customers to go in front of him. He eventually approached the counter and placed the Gatorade down, along with $2 for the drink and a note. He told the clerk he needed to send some money. He went on to say "stay calm" and pointed at the note, which stated to hand over all the cash or she would get shot. He told her large bills only and again said to stay calm. She gave him an undisclosed amount of cash and he walked out of the store calmly at approximately 10:30 a.m.

Once outside, the suspect ran down parking aisle three and got into a tan vehicle in the back of the parking lot. He drove away, using the exit between Starbucks and Outback Steak House.

The clerk did not know if the suspect had a weapon, but she noticed that he kept his hands in the front pocket of his hoodie.

She described him as a thin, black male with a mustache that ran down into a beard with tattoos on both hands (possibly a name) and she noticed he had an accent. He was wearing a dark blue hoodie, black sweat pants and a red, flat-bill cap with an unidentified logo.

Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call the Department at (936) 633-0356 or Crime Stoppers at (936) 639-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous.
