East Texans were among millions of Americans who watched the launch of Space Shuttle Discovery, either live on television or on the Internet.
Tuesday's launch brought back many memories for community leaders, especially those who were on the recovery team when Space Shuttle Columbia disintegrated over East Texas two years ago.
All seven astronauts aboard died in that crash.
Lufkin city leaders were in Florida two weeks ago when the last scheduled launch was called off because of a mechanical problem.
Lufkin city secretary, Renee Thompson, said, "Meeting all the people that we met and getting to know the people that work there, and [knowing] how important it is for them to get back into flight," made watching the launch special.
