Boy Swerves To Miss Truck, Hits Woman Instead

A Lufkin woman is recovering after being run over Tuesday afternoon by a car.

A 16-year-old boy was driving on the loop in Lufkin when he swerved to avoid a truck that had pulled into his lane. The teenager missed the truck, but crashed into a woman who was walking on the side of the road.

Twenty-two year-old Khrista Smith was walking her dog to the Lucky Puppy for a haircut.

"He says he was going about 70, I guess, and couldn't veer over. The girl was bringing her puppy to get groomed and he hit her going down the feeder road," said a witness.

Smith was taken to Woodland Heights hospital with serious head injuries.
