Many Local Missing Persons Cases Don't Get Attention

by Ramonica R. Jones

The search for Alabama teen Natalee Holloway is still underway in Aruba, but back home, searches also continue for several missing East Texans.

You don't always hear about local missing persons cases. Authorities say that's not because they're unimportant, but because they don't always catch the public's eye.

High profile mysteries that get attention usually involve several factors that draw more attention than local cases.

Lufkin Police Lt. Greg Denman said, "Anything that would involve children, anything that would involve celebrity status, anything that would involve peculiarities would probably draw attention to things; anything that was basically out of the ordinary."

Several members of the East Texas Canine Search and Rescue Team returned from Aruba just a few weeks ago after joining the search for Natalee Holloway.
