Affidavit: Brookeland woman exposed her 2 kids, ages 2, 10 months to meth, cocaine

JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office arrested a 27-year-old woman on Sept. 29 in connection to allegations that she exposed her two small children, ages 2 and 10 months, to drugs.

Kelly C. Knight, of Brookeland, is still being held in the Jasper County Jail on a second-degree felony endanger a child with imminent danger of bodily injury. Her bail amount has been set at $5,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, an investigator with the Jasper County Sheriff's Office received a fax from Child Protective Services in regard to the welfare of a 2-year-old child and his or her siblings on Sept. 26. The suspect was identified as Knight.

CPS officials received a report about the 2-year-old child on Aug. 23, the affidavit stated. According to the report, the child is not very well supervised and there are men and women in and out of the house during all hours of the day when the children are there.

"There were also concerns of drug use in the house while the children were there, and the children having access to it after it had been used," the affidavit stated.

A CPS official went to Knight's house in the 100 block of Hawk Lane in Brookeland on Aug. 25. According to the affidavit, the CPS official advised Knight to do "an instant drug test," and Knight responded that she didn't want to do it because she knew she was going to test positive for methamphetamine.

Kelly and her children were drug tested in Jasper on Aug. 28. The 2-year-old child tested positive for meth, and the 10-month-old child tested positive for cocaine and meth on Aug. 29, the affidavit stated. When Knight was tested on the same day, she allegedly tested positive for amphetamines and meth.
