New Surgery Will Help Many East Texans

A large number of East Texans have trouble walking. Many of them don't know it's probably because of a circulation problem.

A new surgery performed in this area Thursday may change that.

Doctors performed the groundbreaking surgery on a Lufkin woman at Woodland Heights Medical Center.

Dr. Robert Hallett said, "We put a wire down into a blocked artery and pass the device through the artery, and excise the plaque, which had totally blocked off this artery before."

Plaque is a buildup of fat and cholesterol. If left untreated, it can lead to amputations.
