AMARILLO, TX (KFDA) -

A 10-year-old elementary student from Amarillo is now working on her third book.

"A little nervous since everyone's reading my piece of literature."

Emotions you might expect from a fifth-grade author. Bakhtawar Parvez, of Sleepy Hollow Elementary, is now self-published for her original work titled, 'The Tale of Princess Penelope.'

"Well my parents just wanted me to write a book and I thought, 'Oh I have a story in my head,'" said Parvez.

The story is one of a princess and her adventure to stop an evil man who becomes jealous of her family's reign. Will she have time to save her town? Well, you'll have to read the book to find out, of course.

"It's really neat to see, while that wasn't a project that began at school, it's most definitely fostered at school, and it's directly related to what we do here in the school," said Sleepy Hollow Principal Amy Krieger.

Principal Krieger also mentions the importance of fostering a child's imagination whether it be academically, creatively or a little of both at the same time.

"I'm honored that Bakhtawar is a student here at Sleepy Hollow, and I'm honored to be a part of her life journey," said Krieger. "You can tell after you read the book, she's going to do great things. She's on her third book already. Just to know that I get to be a piece of her journey is very honorable, and I'm so thankful that I have this opportunity."

Parvez now joins several North Heights students who are also self-published on Amazon.

Of those includes a memoir which shares the struggles several students and teachers have overcome in their lifetime.
