JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Police cited a Jonesboro man with child endangerment after they say he intentionally hit a shopping cart with a baby in it.

The mom told Officer Ryan Crawford her child was in an infant carrier on the back of the cart Monday afternoon when the 86-year-old suspect hit it while pulling into a parking space at Walmart, 1815 E. Highland.

She told the man to wait while she contacted police, but said he instead went inside the store.

Crawford noted in his report that the shopping cart was not in the space where the suspect, Robert H. Guelle, had parked his car. He did note that vehicle was parked over the marked yellow line.

When Guelle came out of the store, the officer asked him what happened.

According to the incident report, Guelle claimed he honked his horn and motioned for the woman to move her cart.

Guelle said when she “refused to move, he bumped the shopping cart with his vehicle.”

Crawford asked if he saw that an infant seat was in the cart, to which Guelle reportedly said he did.

“I asked him if he saw a problem with him bumping the shopping cart with his vehicle since it had an infant seat in the sitting area,” Crawford stated. “[Guelle] advised that he did not see anything wrong with bumping the cart because he did not know if there was a child in the seat or not.”

Crawford cited Guelle with third-degree endangering the welfare of a minor and gave him a Nov. 20 court date.

The infant was not injured.
