When the town of Gilmer is mentioned in relation to sports, the Buckeyes powerhouse football program immediately comes to mind. And that's
fair considering they have won three state titles and racked up 13 double digit win seasons since 2000.
But a small 1A school about nine miles away deserves some attention these days as well. Union Hill went 12 and 2 last year and lost in the state semifinals. That's a pretty good run.
Well the Bulldogs are at it again in 2017. In fact, second year head coach Shane Mallory and company went a perfect 10-0 to capture the programs first undefeated regular season since 1982.
Union Hill started the playoffs last week with a bang, by defeating Fannindel 56 to 6. Winning in blowout fashion is the norm for this team, as its closest game so far this year was decided by 18 points.
Yes, it's 6-man football, but the Bulldogs scored 110 points in one game and 96 in another. That's domination folks.
After falling one game short of AT&T Stadium last year, the boys are determined to keep their foot on the gas.
