Man In Stable Condition Following Nacogdoches County Shooting

by Stuart Burson

A shooting in Nacogdoches County Monday afternoon has sent one man to the hospital. The shooting happened in the Lilbert community.

Investigators say Lester Mallord shot his father-in-law, Melvin Wortham, once in the chest with a pistol. Nacodoches County Sheriff Thomas Kerss tells us this isn't the first time Mallord and his father-in-law have had altercations.

"It did range from disturbance and assault issues between he and his father-in-law. So, there is a past history there between the two."

Wortham was transported to an area hospital where he's in stable condition. Mallord fled the scene. Police were still looking for him Monday night.
