LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - In preparation for this year's Christmas musical, church choirs around Lufkin met at First Baptist Church to practice chorales for this year's program.
Choirs from three sister churches came together to put on this musical program.
"The Christmas season is a wonderful time to blend together voices," said Mark Newton, senior pastor. "Churches are really a representation of our whole community to come together to celebrate Christmas."
Through the diversity of the choir, the three church backgrounds unify the music selection this year.
"From handles messiah to a song in Spanish that I have a terrible time trying to say, to several gospel music numbers," said Newton,
This is the fourth year First Baptist has held their Christmas musical and are hoping a diverse choir will draw out a big crowd.
"Christmas is a magical time anyways and it gives us all a chance to get together," said Greg Garcia, minister of music at New Beginning Baptist Church. "You get people from Nacogdoches and the surrounding communities in here and we all come together."
Thousands of people are expected to attend, and guests are asked to bring canned food donations in lieu of admission.
"We wanted to partner with CISC which of course gives food to folks throughout Angelina County," Newton said.
As for next year Pastor Newton hopes participation numbers continue to grow.
"I would love to see more diversity in our ethnicity and in our church backgrounds. I think the more diverse the greater it represents who Lufkin is," Newton said.
The Christmas musical is only being performed once, so early arrival is requested.
It will be held tomorrow at First Baptist Church in Lufkin.
The show begins at 6 pm.
