(RNN) – Because everything old is new again, NBC is reportedly trying to reboot another of its Emmy-winning sitcoms: "The Office."

Before fans get their hopes up, Steve Carell, who starred as awkward boss Michael Scott, will not return. Carrell starred for seven of the nine seasons of the show, which ran from 2005 to 2013.

Because of the successful return of "Will & Grace," NBC will bring back some old characters and some new to the Scranton, PA, branch of Dunder Mifflin, reported The Hollywood Reporter and TV Line.

Greg Daniels, who wrote and adapted the show from the British sitcom, told "The Hollywood Reporter" that he thought the show ended on a good note, and that’s all that the “show had to say.”

He did say he is interested to see how the new version being penned by David Brent would work, but he has reservations.

“I think the American show became so much of an ensemble, and to not have the whole ensemble there would just feel kind of, I don’t know, less than. So, I don’t want to criticize what he’s doing, I think that’s great, but I’m OK with us having had our finale," he told Hollywood Reporter.

NBC president Bob Greenblatt said after the "Will & Grace" reboot was a hit, that his revival wish list not only included "The Office," but "30 Rock" as well.

To purists, the original "The Office" was the British show created by Ricky Gervais, who also starred in it. Martin Freeman, now known for roles in "The Hobbit," "Fargo," and "Sherlock," was also a star of the British version.
