Nacogdoches man killed when vehicle hits horse

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A Nacogdoches man has died after the vehicle he was a passenger in struck a horse early Tuesday.

Austin Blake Stewart, 20, died at the scene, which was located on US 259, about six miles north of Nacogdoches.

According to the DPS report, Joseph Blankenship, 20, of Nacogdoches, was driving a 2011 Ford pickup northbound around 1 a.m. and was unable to avoid hitting a horse in the middle of the road. After striking the horse, the vehicle hit a guardrail and rolled over.

Blankenship was taken to a Nacogdoches hospital with serious injuries.

The horse also died.

Sheriff Jason Bridges said the wreck occurred in the area of FM 1087.

    Students who entered the Angelina County Youth Fair displayed the goats they've been raising for the past year on Thursday. Goats were judged on their broad shoulders, chest, their ability to be well balanced from head to tail and their muscle. They were divided into 5 weight classes ranging from light to heavy.
