SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Deputies with the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office arrested a Center couple earlier this week in connection with allegations that their 1-year-old child tested positive for meth.
Aubrey Neal Graves, 47, and Jessica Hedges, 32, were booked into the San Augustine County Jail on state-jail felony abandoning or endangering a child charges. They were released two days later after each of them posted a bail amount of $10,000.
According to a press release that was posted on Wednesday, an official with Child Protective Services notified Investigator Chad Brown with the Shelby County Sheriff's Office on Dec. 19, 2017, and said a court issued by the State of Texas said a 1-year-old child was to be removed from Graves and Hedges' custody
During the course of his investigation, Brown tracked the couple down to a motel in San Augustine on Dec. 20, 2017, and SASCO deputies detained them and CPS took custody of the child, the press release stated.
A day later, a hair sample taken from the child tested positive for methamphetamine, the press release stated.
Arrest warrants were issued for Graves and Hedges on Jan. 11. They were arrested on the charges in San Augustine County on Jan. 12.
"The SCSO would like to thank the San Augustine County Sheriff's Office for their assistance with this case," the press release stated.
