Texas has now joined three other states and the District of Columbia as what is called a majority-minority state. Recent figures from the census bureau estimate that 50.2 percent of Texans are now minorities.
In Texas, Hispanics make up the largest minority group. Some advocates think this news will benefit the Hispanic community.
"There's many business out there that don't have the business oriented towards the Hispanic community. So, I think that would be a way they can improve, because their buying power is tremendous," says Ruben Carmona with the Hispanic Alliance for Community Enrichment.
Besides Texas, California and New Mexico are states where Hispanics make up the largest minority group.
