MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - An autopsy on the skeletal remains of two people discovered in a West Texas trash pit has determined they were homicide victims who suffered gunshot wounds to the head.
The Midland County sheriff's office released the preliminary autopsy findings Friday on remains found last weekend and another set found the week before.
Searchers found the remains on private land after acting on a tip authorities received early last month. Sheriff Gary Painter has said the property owner has cooperated and is not a person of interest in the investigation.
The remains have not been identified but Painter said earlier they may be connected to two teens have been missing since October 2015.
He says a person was found with some property belonging to the missing pair, whose names haven't been released.
