CHEROKEE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - After Nacogdoches Police Department executed a search warrant at a remote location in Cherokee County last week, two East Texas men were arrested on felony theft charges, and a large amount of stolen property, including a 1-ton pickup and assorted tools, was recovered.
Daniel Lee Mettlen, 42, of Pollok, and Larry Gordon Mettlen, 57, were both arrested and charged with third-degree felony theft between $30,000 and $100,000. Daniel Mettlen was also charged with a third-degree felony parole warrant.
Daniel Mettlen's bond amount was set at $15,000, and he is still being held in the jail. Larry Mettlen has since posted an unspecified bail amount and has been released from the jail.
According to a press release, Nacogdoches PD detectives executed the search warrant with help from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, the Angelina County Sheriff's Office, and the Lufkin Police Department. The truck and tools were reported stolen after a burglary that occurred at Ace Fence Company in Nacogdoches last week.
Daniel and Larry Mettlen were both arrested in Cherokee County and taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
"Detectives continue to investigate this case, and more property recovery and arrests are possible," the press release stated.
