Up until last summer, college coaches were able to hold satellite camps in different areas of the state, which allowed our athletes to gain exposure and helped numerous universities see the "Beast Texas" talent up close and personal.
The NCAA changed the satellite camp rule though in April of 2017, and therefore the likes of TCU and Texas Tech didn't make their annual trip to the region.
How much did it affect recruiting? Well over 30 East Texans from the class of 2018 recently signed to play Division I football. That's a pretty good amount.
But to make sure our all our athletes get evaluated, Longview head football coach John King and the East Texas Coaches Association are going to hold a combine in May. The event will be free to ETCA members, which consists of over 100 schools throughout East Texas.
There will be a selection process for the 2019 and 2020 recruits, but the combine will be held during the evaluation period for colleges so coaches are going to be able to attend.
