Drugs Found In Middle Schools

A recent national survey found middle schools are seeing a huge jump in drug use by younger students.

Everyone at Lufkin Middle School are working together to keep drugs off campus.

The national numbers show more than one in four middle school students say drugs can be easily found in their school.

Some in East Texas are shocked by these findings others are not.

Officer Ralph Bean, of Lufkin Middle School, said, "I'm not shocked, drugs are accessible and some parents aren't even aware these kids are doing drugs."

Celeste Cole, an eighth grader, said, "You hear about it in high school, but not in middle school. It's kind of jaw-dropping."

School administrators encourage parents to teach kids about drugs to help avoid drug problems.
