Artist Retouches Downtown Murals

by Ramonica R. Jones

Artwork in downtown Lufkin got a much-needed touch up Wednesday, thanks to the artist, Lance Hunter.

Hunter made some improvements on four of his five murals in downtown Lufkin. Hunter painted a piece on Frank Street in 1998. It's the LCC Phone Mural in honor of the phone company's 100th anniversary.

He retouched parts of it and other drawings that have faded with time.

There are "different problems on some of the different murals," Hunter said. The LCC Phone Mural on Frank Street "has a lot of exhaust fumes from diesel trucks, and that was adversely affecting a couple of the colors."

Lance Hunter is an art professor at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma.
