A jury has sentenced a Kennard man accused of shooting a two-year-old girl to 18 years in prison.
David Mitchell also has to pay $5,000 on both counts of aggravated assault. He reportedly shot his wife and her daughter last year on the Fourth of July.
Mitchell's wife took the stand Wednesday and told jurors she no longer thinks her husband was the one who fired six rounds at her SUV. Months earlier, she'd told authorities her husband was behind the shooting.
The trial only lasted two days.
