SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, on March 1, 2018, a report was received by Smith County School Resource Deputy Windy Savering regarding a teacher who had allegedly displayed pornographic material to several high school-age students at a local high school. The teacher, William Perkins, allegedly had a laptop that was displaying multiple pornographic images, the sheriff says, and during the process of the images being displayed, several students recorded the images and reported them to personnel at the school.

An investigation was initiated by the Chapel Hill School Resource Officer.  Perkins' laptop was seized as evidence and the case was forwarded to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division for follow-up investigation, officials say.

After reviewing the case, a search warrant was obtained and executed on the laptop where, the sheriff's office says, multiple images were observed on the laptop computer hard drive. The images were confirmed to be sexually explicit.

An arrest warrant charging William Perkins with the offense of Display of Harmful Material to Minor was issued by 114th State District Judge Christi Kennedy who recommended bond at $2,500. William Perkins surrendered himself to the Smith County Jail through his attorney on March 12 shortly after noon. William Perkins was booked into the Smith County Jail with a preset bond of $2,500.

According to his online bio, Perkins is an English  teacher.
