The online auction to sell surplus equipment owned by Nacogdoches County far exceeded expectations. Old cars, dump trucks and road equipment are apparently in demand. The winning bids were much higher than live auctions conducted with the city.
Exposition Center Director Bill Plunckett came up with the idea to try the cyber auction. "For one dump truck we got $25,000. Another one we got about $17,000. Front end loader we got $22,000. So of the old equipment that was going to go for a quarter of what we thought it was going to go for. Some contractors out there really need this equipment."
