Finding Relatives And Friends

If you are trying to reach missing relatives or friends in areas affected by Hurricane Katrina, the American Red Cross offers some basic guidance:

You can contact the Red Cross directly and inquire about individuals through its "Get Info" hotline: 1-866 GET INFO (1-866-438-4636)

Rest assured that emergency responders are working as quickly as possible and are doing all that they can to help those affected.

Remember that the storm has left power outages and downed phone lines in its wake. Please keep trying to call your friends and relatives, and be patient. Phone lines are often overwhelmed after a disaster.

Try sending an e-mail if you can, as sometimes e-mail will work when phones don't.

Family and Friend Information for Biloxi/Gulfport Area

Hundreds of e-mails are pouring in to our sister station, WAVE3 in Louisville, Kentucky (via, the Web site of another sister station, WLOX in Biloxi, Miss.) asking for news of specific areas and specific family and friends. While this is a tough task considering the current communication out of the Biloxi/Gulfport area, the Liberty Corporation family of stations (and their respective Web sites) hopes to provide better information as it becomes available.

WLOX managers suggest the best way to find news of friends and family is through HAM radio operators. There is a HAM radio operator stationed at WLOX; the call sign is WX5AAA.

You can find HAM radio operators in your local area by using The National Association of Amateur Radio website. Click Here to go to the search page.

We thank you for your patience.
