Evacuees are asking all kinds of questions, especially, involving their insurance. Most questions are about when they can start filing claims, and who they should call.
The answer is, start filing claims now.
Local insurance agents have already been receiving phone calls. If you can't get in touch with your insurance company, visit a local company. Most are willing to help, but expect delays when filing.
Molly Hudspeth, an insurance office manager, said, "It depends on what company they have their insurance with because, usually, they write in a lot of different states. Their home office may not be in that area, so they could be calling the company or trying to get their claim on board."
Agents expect most storm victims have flood insurance since they live in areas prone to flooding.
