Shelter, Clothing, and Meal Assistance


A Red Cross shelter is open at the C. L. Simon Recreation Center on North St. in Nacogdoches. Call the Red Cross office for more information.

The City of Lufkin has opened a shelter at the United Pentecostal Campground on US 59 South in Lufkin. The camp can currently hold 320 people, but room for 700 more is being added. Even if the evacuees in the Lufkin area do not reside at the camp, they are being asked to register so that contact can be made with them if necessary. Smoothie King

        Smoothie King of Lufkin will be giving free smoothies to victims of Hurricane Katrina who are staying in the Lufkin area. Free smoothies will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the Smoothie King location at 4505 South Medford Drive, Suite 209, in Lufkin. You must present Louisiana or Mississippi identification to receive a free smoothie. Smoothie King’s corporate headquarters are located in New Orleans.

        Free meals will be offered to Hurricane Katrina evacuees from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at Ralph and Kakoo’s Restaurant on Hwy. 59 South in Lufkin.
