NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A Texas Department of Public Safety trooper arrested two Nacogdoches residents on felony drug charges Wednesday morning after a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 59.
Kaylene Cook Boatman, 29, and Rashad Jamaal Ahma Sanders, 34, both of Nacogdoches, were each charged with second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance between 4 and 400 grams. No bail amounts have been set for their charges yet.
According to a press release, a DPS trooper stopped a 2004 Honda SUV at about 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday for a traffic violation. In addition to Boatman and Sanders, there were also three small children in the vehicle.
While the DPS trooper was speaking to Sanders, the driver, the trooper noticed indicators of drug possession and a search of the SUV revealed more than 4 grams of a controlled substance.
Sanders and Boatman, the mother of the three children were arrested at the scene and taken to the Nacogdoches County Jail.
The three children were released into the custody of a responsible adult.
