LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - For today's Angelina County Fair youth competition, participants showcased their beef heifer for the ultimate grand champion prize.
Students were caught grooming and giving last minute touch-ups to their animal before the show.
The heifers were judged on their outer body appearance and grooming.
Students told KTRE they were ready for the big day because raising a heifer takes hard work and dedication.
"You have to get up early in the morning and you have late nights in the barn constantly," said participant Sadie LeBlanc. "You have to groom their hair, work them, and make sure they get to their full production so they can be at the county show and even majors."
The overall grand champion was Kylie Rios from Diboll.
Tomorrow's contest will consist of the TCAA Heifer Show, Pee Wee Show, and Bar B Que cook-off.
