Angelina College’s Lady Roadrunners jumped out to big leads early in each game of Friday’s doubleheader, resulting in a two-game sweep of Paris College in 11-3, 11-1 wins at the Larry Phillips Family Sports Complex in Lufkin.
The wins move the AC winning streak to eight straight games, with the last five occurring via the mercy rule.
Kiriany Hornberger continued her torrid hitting streak, driving in seven runs over the two games. Hornberger homered in the opener and added a three-run triple in the nightcap.
Leadoff hitter Jessica Husband pumped up her on-base percentage, reaching base six times in seven official at-bats and scoring six runs over the two games. In the opener, Rachel Agnello and Ashley Hallmark each drove in two runs; Taylor Lenggenhager and Brette Kohring added an RBI each. Pitcher Kacy Capps earned the complete-game win, allowing three hits while striking out three Dragons over five innings.
Hornberger drove in four runs in the late game, also turning in a diving catch in left field. Lenggenhager went 2-for-2 with two more RBI, and Agnello drove in a run. Starting pitcher Shelby Mixon allowed three hits and a run over four innings, while reliever Leigh Luker pitched a 1-2-3 fifth to close out the win.
The Lady Roadrunners (27-14, 15-7) travel to Athens on Monday to take on Trinity Valley Community College. Game time for the opener of the doubleheader is 1 p.m.
AC’s ladies will host their final home stand of the regular season Wednesday against Bossier Parish Community College. The team will host Sophomore Night Festivities following the nightcap.
