Local Businesses Host Refugee Cookout

by Ramonica R. Jones

A cookout at the Ellen Trout Zoo is planned for Katrina evacuees this weekend.

Home Depot and KTRE are teaming up to show our new neighbors some good old East Texas hospitality.

There'll be plenty of food for everyone. The cookout for evacuees starts at 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning and ends at 1:00 p.m. Please bring some form of identification.

Home Depot manager, Alan Krusemark, said, "We'll start serving hamburgers and hot dogs for all the kids and the families; hopefully, they'll be able to get their minds off of what happened and enjoy our zoo here in Lufkin."

Home Depot has been one of the drop off locations for clothes, hygiene products, and other items refugees will need to get back on their feet.
