Jasper County Sheriff's Office: 1 man in custody after shooting incident

JASPER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A 22-year-old man turned himself into the Jasper County Sheriff's Office in connection with allegations that he shot another man in the arm and upper chest during an argument at a home off of FM 776 that occurred late Sunday afternoon.

Eddie McBride was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury. Jasper County Sheriff Mitchel Newman said in a press release that McBride has been arraigned, and he is being held in the county jail on a $100,000 bond.

According to the press release, the verbal argument between McBride and the victim wound up being a fight.

Newman said when his deputies arrived at the scene of the shooting incident, all of the people involved had left. JCSO investigators photographed and worked the scene and found some evidence related to the incident.

Broddrick Penland was taken to Jasper Memorial Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to his arm and upper chest, the press release stated. Penland was later flown to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for additional medical treatment.

About an hour later, McBride turned himself in at the sheriff's office. After JCSO investigators interviewed him, they arrested him for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon causing serious bodily injury.

"At last work, Penland was still undergoing medical treatment," the press release stated.
