Affidavit: Angelina County nightclub shooting started over dance floor accident

ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

A nightclub shooting which left two injured last weekend was the result of a confrontation which started when two people bumped into each other on the dance floor, according to an arrest affidavit.

One person injured was the result of stray bullets, according to the affidavit.

Deputies with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office arrested Kevin Edward Jefferson, 45, of Corrigan, on Thursday. The arrest followed a a shooting early April 15.

According to an arrest affidavit released to KTRE on Monday, the incident at  Annie Mae’s nightclub, located at 986 Jackson Road, at 1:30 a.m. The affidavit states an investigator spoke to Jabroderick Rogers, who said his sister was dancing when her dancing partner accidentally bumped into a different woman. He was then confronted by Jefferson, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states Jeffferson was a friend of the woman who was bumped and he got in a confrontation with Rogers. They began fighting and Rogers said he knocked Jefferson over a bench and then he struck him with his fists. Rogers said he then saw a “flash” and heard gunshots. Rogers said he then dove on top of Jefferson and tried to take the gun away from Jefferson then realized he had been shot.

A different witness said they were able to get a 9 mm handgun away from Jefferson. The affidavit states four to six rounds were fired.

Investigators then interviewed Vicente Trimble, who said he was dancing near the stage and heard the gunfire and started toward the exit when he was shot in the left leg and right thigh.

The affidavit states Rogers and Trimble later identified Jefferson in a photo lineup.

Jefferson is being held on a collective bond of $70,000
