NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches Independent School District board members confirm that the Nacogdoches High School principal has taken a position with another district.
School Board President Rev. James Ervin said that Nacogdoches High School Principal Dr. Michael O'Guin has accepted a position with the Hays Consolidated Independent School District. O'Guin has been principal of NHS since July 2016.
Ervin confirms that O'Guin will be the deputy academic officer for the district, which is near Kyle.
This is the same school district that former NISD Superintendent Sandra Dowdy moved to earlier this year.
Ervin said in part, "A lot of people hate to see him leave. He was a great person for this school district. We are definitely losing a quality principal, but we wish him the best on his next endeavor."
The last day for O'Guin has not been determined yet, but Ervin said the next step for the school district would be opening the position online and taking applications.
"We will move forward as we always do, and the next step will be to begin interviewing candidates," Ervin said. "I believe the superintendent will also name or provide a recommendation for an interim principal at the high school to take over the position. A special board meeting has not been called at this time."
Ervin also confirmed that O'Guin was being seriously considered by several school districts before accepting the position with Hays CISD.
