NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Lindale cooked up a first-place win Friday afternoon as they competed against seven other East Texas schools in Stephen F. Austin State University's Market Basket Challenge.
The hospitality administration program welcomed teams of five culinary art students from local high schools and gave them a set of mystery ingredients to create the best dish they could whip up without much time to prepare.
Among the eight high school culinary art programs, Chireno, Lindale, Union Hill, and Athens were represented.
Lindale High School said all five students were seniors, and this was their final competition together before graduation. They took home the first-place prize with their South American-flavored flat iron steak.
The second- and third-place wins went to Union Hill and Athens respectively.
According to the SFASU Hospitality Administration website, this is the fourth year the competition has been held. In addition to the friendly competition, the college hopes to introduce prospective students to the different hospitality programs offered through their school.
