APPLEBY, TX (KTRE) - The Nacogdoches Shriners are seldom forgotten by the families they help.
Katelyn Grumbles of Garrison is 10 years old, but she will always be grateful to the Shriners for driving her to the doctor when she was a baby.
Angela Bradford, her grandmother, is the owner of the Appleby Sand Cafe. Every year, she cooks up fried catfish and chicken to donate 100 percent of the proceeds to the Shrine Club. The annual fish/chicken fry is Sunday.
"They have been so good for several years now to raise this money for Nacogdoches Shrine Club," said Robert Parrish with the Shrine Club. "We get to see Katelyn every year."
"To me, I feel like they're my own grandparents because I see them a lot," Katelyn said. "I think any time we can put a face to our cause, it adds so much more to it."
The catfish and fried chicken dinner is Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Appleby Sand Cafe located at 6530 FM 2609, commonly referred to as the Appleby Sand Road.
Plates are $12 for either eat in or take out.
