HUDSON, TX (KTRE) - The 2018 Baseball Playoffs got under way Wednesday night with the first games in East Texas.
Hudson hosted Orangefield in Game 1 of the best-of-three series. The game was tied heading into the 7th. Neither team could get much offense going thanks to a challenging incoming wind.
In the seventh, Aaron Dickerson hit an RBI single to bring in the only run of the game. The two teams will play Game 2 on Friday in Orangefield. Game 3 will follow if necessary.
In Diboll, the lumberjacks were playing on on days rest, after edging Huntington in a seeding game on Monday. The Lumberjacks hosted Little Cypress- Maurcieville. Diboll held the Bears scoreless in the first but LCM roared back in the 2nd inning and scored six runs. Diboll answered back with a run in their half of the 2nd, but it was not enough as LCM won 11-1 in 5 innings. Diboll will travel to LCM on Friday for Game 2 at 5:30. Game 3 will follow if needed.
With the loss in the seeding game, Huntington drew Bride City, district champions out of 22-4A. The Red Devils trailed the Cardinals 5-2 going into the 5th inning but Bridge City scored three more runs and won the game 8-2.
